LP 025: Sergio Mendes And Brasil '66 - Stillness (A&M, 1971)

Side 1
01 Stillness
02 Righteous Life
03 Chelsea Morning
04 Cancao Do Nosso Amor (Far Away Today)
05 Viramundo

Side 2
06 Lost In Paradise
07 For What It's Worth
08 Sometimes In Winter
09 Celebration Of The Sunrise
10 Stillness

Stillness marks the final chapter in the Brasil '66 story.

A circular concept album which divided critics given its departure (mostly) from the familiar bossanova sound.

Great drum break on For What It's Worth, elegant strumming on Chelsea Morning and some frantic bossa grooves on Viramundo.

Dig the psychedelic vibes on Stillness (both takes) and Righteous Life.
Feel the sadness as Sometimes In Winter spins.

One of my favourite albums of the early 70s (I've played it often enough - so there are some crackles!) and a great way for Lani Hall to bow out.

Comments and feedback are welcome.

I agree your opinion: this is also one of my favourite LP:s. As a young boy I put all my pocket money to LP:s such as this. Brasil 66 has always been the very music I like. Nobody does that kind of music anymore.
You have a great blog - thank you for all the the recors you share with us.
